Sharmel Miller joined Abbeville County Dispatch in 1999 as a 911 telecommunicator. She worked her way up through the ranks as a telecommunicator, Communication Training Officer, Supervisor, 911 Coordinator to the 911 Director in 2011.
Sharmel was appointed by her agency in 2007 as the CALEA accreditation manager. In 2008 her agency was the third communication agency in South Carolina to become CALEA accredited.
She has been an APCO member since 2003, serving on the awards committee since 2011.
She has been an adjunct instructor for the APCO Institute since 2005 specializing in teaching the PST 1, Fire, CTO, Supervisor and Manager Courses. She also had the privilege instructing the Communication Training Officer Course in Iceland in 2013.
Sharmel also serves as an instructor for South Carolina Law Enforcement Division instructing the National Crime Information Center Course since 2006.
Sharmel is a graduate of the Charlotte UNC EMS Management Leadership program. Along with the APCO Institute Leadership Certificate Program and received the Registered Public Safety Leader (RPL) Designation in 2008.
She is committed to enhancing every aspect of Abbeville County Dispatch, APCO Institute and working with all facets of the community to ensure the continued success of the dispatch center.
