I am interested if any other agencies pay their dispatchers for drive time to and from training and if you have a written policy in place for this.

I haven't been on for a while, but wanted to answer your question even tho it is a little old. Our agency compensates for mileage if they take their own vehicle or they have the option of taking a gas card to buy gas and not put in for mileage, at times they can reserve a county vehicle to drive. As for salary compensation for the drive to and from training there is no compensation, Also, most trainings are 8 hours and our dispatchers work 10 hour shifts so there is some compensation there since they don't get paid for drive time. The no compensation for drive time is in our County Policy Manual.

Laura - Our center is unionized and part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement includes a Transportation Allowance which reads in part; Transportation allowance for all members of the bargaining unit using their own cars for City-approved business shall be at the prevailing rate allowed by the IRS.
