Policy for Dispatching Fire Departments to any "Structure insecurities/collapse"

By Tammie Conover posted 06-11-2015 13:27

Hello Fellow Members,

Recently we had an incident where a vacant residence had a "collapse" of a stairway leading to the basement. A neighbor called
to report it, (vacant home, no one there) the dispatcher sent police to check, who then called for Zoning/Inspections to address. The Fire Department was not sent, but would have been a reasonable call when you start thinking of all the "what if's" possible. Does anyone
have a SOG/SOP in place that would address this same issue?
Thank you,

Tammie J. Conover

We use the Fire Priority Dispatch system which covers a building collapse. It is card 54 Confined Space/Structure Collapse. Our center has chose to use the nature of Fire Investigation when no one is trapped.
