Do you ever feel like a cheerleader?

Do you ever feel like a cheerleader at work? Cheerleaders are upbeat people, motivators, encouraging others to do their best. There are days when I when all I want to do is sit down and be left alone but that doesn't work out. I end up playing a role of counselor, friend, sibling, or mentor. We all need a friendly ear from time-to-time. Unless it's really busy, I generally don't mind.

We all have good days, bad ones, want to share news, lament about family woes, and groan when we feel off kilter. It's not easy talking to another employee, who is feeling down, especially when I don't feel that great myself. Working on a busy shift, short-staffed, trying to keep a good attitude can be tiring. I sometimes wonder if it is worth the hassle but I think back on what I'm not doing. I'm not sitting in a call center working twice as hard, twice as understaffed, at a traditional 911 center any longer being screamed at hysterical callers.

I like my fellow dispatchers. We get along and work well together as a team. If I, or they, need a boost on occasion, then I say that's all good. I'm here for them and I know they stand ready for me. I never was a cheerleader in school. Guess it's just my turn now.
