Combined Police and Fire Dispatch

I am looking for feedback from any fire communicators that have combined with police dispatch services.  Our communications department is currently looking at a possible move to the police department.  We would still be responsible for handling our fire calls, but may be required to answer 911 calls as well.  Looking for any shortcomings you may have found with such a system.

Many communities have Centralized Dispatch that handle multiple agencies (Law, Fire, EMS, Rescue). As a vendor I would suggest making sure that your CAD is designed for multi-agency use. I have seen centers attempt to dispatch Fire and EMS with Law only oriented software and it certainly creates some challenges. Just one thought......
