I'm frequently asked how commercial members can contribute to the magazine. Well, there are several different ways for a commercial member to contribute on behalf of their company. First, we have a product announcement/review section, called Cool Cache, and we run industry news stories (who bought who, new CEO, new president, etc.) in our Public Broadcast department on a space available basis. Next, if I've assigned a feature on a particular type of technology (e.g., CAD, mesh, Wi-MAX), we'll try to include information about the companies that provide those technologies, both in the article and in sidebars, including quotes from principles at the companies. Please forward press releases to Assistant Editor Natasha Yetman at n.yetman@elsevier.com.
We also accept bylined articles from vendors on a case-by-case basis. We ask that articles be non-commercial in nature. We prefer solutions-based, how-to or other type of educational article or case study. Solution articles explain how a public safety communications challenge was addressed by a technology. The article should define the challenge(s) and include details of how they were resolved. If possible discuss why and how the technology was chosen and applied, difficulties to overcome, cost, personnel and lessons learned. How-to articles detail systematic instructions on how to implement a technique within an organization or system.
Articles should be original and written exclusively for APCO's Public Safety Communications, and APCO retains the copyright to articles as published in PSC (which is not to say that authors can't contribute similar articles elsewhere).
We like to include a URL where readers can go to learn more about the technology being discussed. And the author should indicate their company affiliation and contact info in a short bio at the end of the article.
