By all means an employee should be paid for drive time. I work at a remote office and our staff needs to drive sometimes over 8 hours to a training destination. They are paid wages, meals and per diem for taking their own vehicle. This is written policy. We try to do as much online training as possible because travel is our most expensive item for training. If the employees were not paid to travel they would miss some of the excellent opportunities for free or required training. As a supervisor I feel this is one of the most important items in our budget planning.
