By Monica Weaver posted 06-17-2013 15:19

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone have an EAP (Emergency Active Plan) In their comm center for an active shooter within the communications center?  Because you know it could really happen in one of our centers, it could be an employee, deputy, family member anyone.. With that being said Im trying to implement an Active Shooter plan for the communications center. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions in place?

Depending on the buy in from the law enforcement, fire and ems side will determine how good your plan is going to be. If you can't get a plan together, sit down and brainstorm and do a discussion type exercise to see what your personnel know, learn what to expect. If you use this, this might be a good place to start coming up with items for you centers plan.

That is a great idea, I suggest getting together with your Law Enforcement partners and determine how they would respond to an incident like that and coordinate with them. Also evaluate your ability to "Lock Down" the dispatch center, rerouting 911 calls, handling radio traffic, there are a number of mission critical tasks that will need to continue as the incident unfolds. This would be a great topic to discuss at Conference.
