Wow...2014. Ya know, when I was three years old, they came out with the 2001 Space Odyssey and everyone thought "No way...H.A.L. 9000? Riiiight!" Then, when I was just out of high school in 1984, I remember going to see the 2010 Space Odyssey. The mantra to that revision was "The year we make contact". Well, time flies. We have passed 2010 by four years and we still haven't made contact. Ha Ha However, not everything we sat in awe and wonder over in 1984 seems like such an odyssey anymore, does it? A space station? Really? Computers that talk to you? Ridiculous! Now, we have the international space station and Siri!
I suppose every year we look back on progress, failures, milestones, blessings and disappointments. And, every year we look forward in hopes and expectations that things will be different, better and more fulfilling. Aside from technological advancements, and our propensity toward gizmos and gadgets, we also desire to be more physically fit, spiritually and mentally healthy, financially stable and relationally sound. And who wouldn't? I think we need to realize however, that to see change, we must make changes. After all, it has been said that the definition of insanity to keep doing what you are doing and expect a different result for doing so.
Unlike some, I do not wish "happy new year", because that implies it isn't going to be a good year unless you are happy all the time. I believe that a person can be fulfilled, satisfied and accomplished without feeling the warm fuzzy emotion of "happiness". So...
