Need help with Combo mobile antenna Problems ?

By Desi Calzada posted 03-26-2013 16:50

We have started using a combo mobile antenna for our police and fire fleet.  The antennas support the Verizon's 4G, 3G, Wi Fi Hot Spot and GPS.

The antennas are all housed in a black plastic housing.   Our thoughts were to try to minimize the number of holes we needed to make in the vehicles but they dont appear to be working well.

Someone mentioned that the close proximity of the antennas is creating a situation where we may be de-sensing the devices.    Does anyone else out there have some input.   We dont mind going to individual antennas but we dont want to make that decision without asking for more opinions.

We use the Panorama Antennas system Like the Washington State Patrol. We used two unit for 3G and 4G. Plus one Sharkee we can used trunk 800, VHF and No Trunk 400 for the K9. The other Sharkee we used for the cell phone. Thes antenna also have GPS and we can divied them up to make 4 units. We have been using them for a year now though the Pacific Northwest winter weather. We have not seen any problem. We take off one antenna and installed this Sharkee in the 3/4 hole. To get us the 4G. ON new antenna system we add two Sharkee. We space them 12 inch apart.

Desi,
What kind of antenna are you using? I just went through this with my agency. The antenna manufacturer basically said we couldn't do it. Due to MIMO technology (multi in and multi out) for 4G you actually need two of the antennas and they need to be spaced out a certain distance apart. If you want to get ahold of me I can give you our vendors information, he was extremely helpful explaining it all to me. My email address is jongoldman - AT - derrynh.org
